Dear 90’s Baby #8
Dear 90’s Baby,
Why do people fail?
I’ve never met anyone who set out to fail, neither have I met anyone who claims they succeeded ‘by mistake’.. Or have you? Success in every sense is strategic and intentional; Failure on the other hand, is not really planned for; it just happens. Ah! Does it?
You must have heard that “Life is in phases” and though this line has almost been overused, it tells us something fundamental to human existence: everyone experiences different stages of life during their lifetime. Yes, everybody goes through a life-cycle; Life is dynamic like that. Hence, a baby does not need to pray to become a teenager, it is only a matter of time before teen-age happens. 🙂
You see, we all transition and this matter is not a respecter of persons; we will all come to the end of a phase and demands will be placed on us by the new phase. Whether you are prepared or not, transitions happen.
People fail because they do not realize when it’s time to transition
Seasons come and go but not everyone realizes this and that points to one reason why people fail: They were not ready for the new season. “Life had moved, but they have not grown.” You can succeed in one stage of life and begin to fail in another because you were not ready to transit. That some people were whiz kids in College does not guarantee that they’ll graduate and succeed in life. Wait. Before you pack your bags to leave, let me ask; “are you prepared?”
Another reason people fail is that they did not prepare for transition. It’s one thing to know transition will happen, another thing to recognize when transition is about to happen, and a different thing entirely to prepare for the transition that is coming. Your Success is largely dependent on your ability to understand phases of your life and the demands they bring.
People fail when their new season meets them unprepared
A season will come where the things you used to get away with will now look awkward on you. Think about it, some things that worked back then just don’t work anymore. For instance, when I was in Junior School, Barbie was everything. All my stationery had to be Barbie branded. It mattered, then; years after, I don’t even remember Barbie.
If you are a leader, you need to be able to discern transitions; know when it is time to prepare for the next phase, and prepare accordingly. People struggle in their seasons because they did not prepare for their new phase before it came.
This is not the only reason why people fail but it is a noteworthy one.
To be honest, institutions that are meant to build us in different areas of life are also failing, but we cannot continue to depend on them, we have to be more intentional and truthful to ourselves about where we are and where we want to be.
Dear 90’s Baby, success cannot be transferred by laying on of hands.
Success is not an impartation. You can be taught, but learning is up to you; you can be coached, but execution is up to you.
…Talking about seasons, people can tell what season you are in; even you can tell. How? The answer is in 1Corinthians13: (Conversations, Mentality, and Logic). I will do a follow-up podcast to explain this soon; Tell me in the comment box if you want to be notified when the podcast goes live.
See you in the comment boxes below; In my next series of letters, I’ll say more about why people fail. 😉
