Nurture Your Inner-man

I am sure you remember how you felt when you gave birth to that baby- after waiting for several years? How you sacrificed for that child, how you were present to respond to every cry, how you protected the child from evil and ensured that child made the right decisions when he was of age?

Remember how you cherished that precious trinket? The memories of how you got it remained evergreen in your mind. You kept it safe, you used it carefully, and you did all you could to ensure it remained the way it was the first time you got it.

Take a moment to recall how you handled things that were of great value to you: relationships, items, assets.

Now are those still important to you? What is important to you? How would you handle it?

To nurture means to care for and protect someone or something towards growth and development. For instance, you take care and nurture a seedling (watering it, and ensuring it’s not exposed to harsh weather conditions) till it grows into a big tree. You take care of that pet when it’s young and even as it grows because you value it.

In the same vein, you can be intentional about nurturing your inner-man- creating a favorable environment and conditions for it to thrive, exposing it to the right materials and information and giving it the right and adequate meal to groom it to strength and robustness.

Guard your heart and filter what you expose it to at all times, “Above all, be careful what you think because your thoughts control your life” Pro 4:23.

Mind your thoughts ‘in conclusion, my friends, fill your minds with those things that are good and that deserve praise: things that are true, noble, right, pure, lovely, and honorable’ Phil 4:8.

Pray in your understanding and in the Spirit to build power (without ceasing). Yes it’s possible, you can always pray. Have prayer times, which you should be judicious about, but also, as you engage in your daily activities, you can mutter prayers under your breath.

Study God’s word daily to keep your mind renewed and transformed. The understanding that comes from studying the word by the help of the Holy Spirit will cause you to grow in grace.

Be mindful of what goes into you through your eyes and your ears. There was a time the Spirit of God ministered to me not to see a movie, but curiosity made me watch, and along the line, I found out why I shouldn’t have in the first place. Hey! Not all movies are bad, and even some harmless-looking movies, write-ups or programs are cancerous to some people; look out for content details to get an insight, and only access it if it will edify you. They say music is good for the soul, but not all is good for you, you know the after effects of some songs you’ve listened to.

I believe that the spirit that inspires any song comes to the fore once it’s sung or listened to. Beware and keep your guard.

Expose your mind to materials that will build you, keep godly and wise company. Be friends with those who are wise, and you will become wise. Choose fools to be your friends, and you will have trouble Pro. 13:20.

You have to be intentional about nurturing your inner man, it doesn’t just happen, and it takes work from you to make it happen. You MUST work the work, protect your heart, and sharpen your spirit with the word of God and prayer. Don’t live carelessly, it’s too dangerous. Imagine not being able to pick signals in the realm of the spirit when you should, so you can act accordingly? Imagine always being a victim of circumstance? God keeps, HE sure protects.

But yeah, be a responsible Christian who keeps watch over his heart.

Sharpened sensitivity and strong discernment: You’d be a discerning Christian, one that’s aware of the spirit realm. Hence you take actions as required based on the word of God, never falling victim of circumstances.

Life and Peace in Christ: The corrupt nature’s attitude leads to death. But the spiritual nature’s attitude leads to life and peace. This is so because the corrupt nature has a hostile attitude toward God. It refuses to place itself under the authority of God’s standards because it can’t. Those who are under the control of the corrupt nature can’t please God. But if God’s Spirit lives in you, you are under the control of your spiritual nature, not your corrupt nature… Rom 8:6-9

Triumph over your flesh: live your life as your spiritual nature directs you. Then you will never follow through on what your corrupt nature wants Gal.5:16

Access to revelation and firsthand information from the Spirit of God. When you’re watchful, you tend to pick things in time. Just to mention a few.

It may not always be easy. At times, the Holy Spirit will lead you to pray, study the bible- you should obey HIM. At times you just want to eat, sleep, but no, your spirit is yearning for prayer… in all these, it takes discipline on your part and plugging into grace that the Holy Spirit always makes available.

Don’t live your life to chance…
