What’s your worth?

Many weigh people’s worth by affluence, power and influence; the measure of all or any of these three, being the measure of their worth. Oh, this guy is sooooo wealthy, or that woman wields so much authority…

wealthy manIt’s good to have these right? I’m sure your answer is yes! You’ll also agree with me that without all or at least one of these, some might feel insecure and out of place.

But hey, not everyone will be wealthy, not everyone will command some level of power and authority, not everyone will have so much influence and some may never have any of the three. Now think about this, what if a man never has any of the three, then is he worthless? What defines a man’s worth?

Take a minute to ask yourself this ‘Who truly qualifies to define my worth?

I believe your creator does, HE made you and knows your worth. I guess you’d also agree with me on this.

A clue to know your worth

Jesus said in Mark 8:36-37 “For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world and forfeit his soul? For what can a man give in return for his soul?”

This should make you wonder! Gaining the world, cannot be compared with losing your soul. Have you ever imagined setting goals, and being able to achieve all except the most important?

The truth is, you can’t even gain the world and save your soul.

Please note that this statement does not mean you can’t be wealthy, powerful, or influential and also have your soul saved at the same time.

Here’s what it means- you can’t love the world, be conformed to it, live a worldly life, please the world and also have your soul saved 1 John 2:15.

The things of the world may be desired and possessed for the uses and purposes which God intended, and they are to be used by his grace, and to his glory; but believers must not seek or value them for those purposes to which sin abuses them.

The world draws the heart from God; and the more the love of the world prevails, the more the love of God decays. The things of the world are classed according to the three ruling inclinations of depraved nature. 1. The lust of the flesh, of the body: wrong desires of the heart, the appetite of indulging all things that excite and inflame sensual pleasures. 2. The lust of the eyes: the eyes are delighted with riches and rich possessions; this is the lust of covetousness. 3. The pride of life: a vain man craves the grandeur and pomp of a vain-glorious life; this includes thirst after honor and applause’ [Ref: Mathew Henry’s Bible Commentary]

possession“And he went on to say to them all, watch out and guard yourselves from every kind of greed; because your true life is not made up of the things you own, no matter how rich you may be.” Luke 12:15

Every man’s soul is more valuable to God than the size of his pocket, his level of influence or the authority he commands (you can’t be more powerful than God).

Therefore, if this is how your creator sees it, then seeing it any other way is faulty. Cos when you stand before God at judgement, your next destination in eternity will not be a function of you, but the state of your soul. ARE YOU SAVED? DOES CHRIST KNOW YOU?

“I can guarantee that there will be more happiness in heaven over one person who turns to God and changes the way he thinks and acts than over 99 people who already have turned to God and have his approval” Luke 15:7

If you’re not born again, then repent now; confess Jesus as Lord, believe in your heart that  God raised HIM from the dead and you will be saved. Moreover, if you’re born again, examine yourself, is the love for the world gradually drawing you away from fellowship with your FATHER, God? Remember God loves you and is always willing to receive you, so retrace your steps and focus on what’s most important now that you can.

The whole created universe, in all its grandeur and greatness, is of less intrinsic worth than one human being, YOUR SOUL IS PRECIOUS TO GOD.
